Description
This new CD of songs from the 1890s through World War I is a companion to the beloved series of books by Minnesota author Maud Hart Lovelace, who immortalized her youth in Mankato through her stories. The CD features vocalist Maud Hixson, pianist Rick Carlson, and a guest appearance by soprano Maria Jette.
The recording features 20 songs that were referred to in the Betsy-Tacy series, including early hits by Irving Berlin and Jerome Kern, as well as The Cat Duet, which characters Betsy and Tacy performed at countless school recitals.
Maud Hixson is a singer of classic jazz and popular songs, based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Rick Carlson is the pianist for the Wolverines Big Band, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Soprano Maria Jette is often heard with VocalEssence and is a regular performer on the radio show A Prairie Home Companion.
