We welcome your interest in the Betsy-Tacy Society. The BTS was founded in Mankato, Minnesota in 1990, became incorporated and tax-exempt in 1992, and has over 1,500 members throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, and Africa. This diverse group reads and shares a fondness for the Betsy-Tacy series of books written by Maud Hart Lovelace (1892-1980). Its mission is to promote and preserve her work, sustain an interest in the lifestyle portrayed in her writings, and encourage their continued publication and distribution.
The Betsy-Tacy Society Journal and our newsletters contain articles and items of interest related to the Betsy-Tacy books, information about the national organization and chapter activities, and our product catalog. You can read sample articles from previous issues here.
As a member of the Betsy-Tacy Society you will:
- Receive the Betsy-Tacy Society Journal (an occasional publication) and our newsletter (The Deep Valley Sun);
- Be part of an important effort to restore historical and literary landmarks in Mankato so they can influence and educate future generations;
- Be invited to attend conventions and meetings organized by the BTS;
- Have an opportunity to be part of a local BTS group where you will meet people with whom you have a great deal in common, or be able to establish a group if one doesn't already exist in your area;
- NEW! Receive a 10% discount on purchases from Tacy's Gift Shop.
Please note that while younger members are very welcome to join the Society, the Journal is geared to an adult audience. Children aged 12 and up would most likely enjoy a membership.
If you would like to become a member of the Betsy-Tacy Society, please use the link below to print out a membership form. Rates are listed on the form. Once your dues are received, the current issue of the Journal and newsletter will be mailed to you first class. Please note that all subsequent mailings utilize bulk mail, so that when a new Journal is released it can take anywhere from one to six weeks for it to arrive. Expiration dates are indicated on the mailing labels. To minimize costs, we do not send renewal notices, so please make sure to check your label when you receive our mailings!
